  • So even if my life is wasted (which I often feel like it is), and I’m just sitting around all day self-indulging and generally feeling miserable not seeing another soul, and my only human contact being video games and the person at the McDonald’s drive-through, the least I can do is love God, right?  And try to avoid grievous sin, right?

    I can’t even so that right.  I freaking hate sin, and I freaking hate anger.  And I freaking hate living in a sinful, angry world.  And I’m the problem.

  • No….I’M the problem!

  • I’m praying for you.

  • *hugs*

    I wish there was something I could say that would help.

  • I’ve lost touch with you and your life. What happened to the fine hunk of man you were seeing a while back?

  • What is going on with you? It sounds very personal. I would much be interested to know if you want to msg me. Either way, praying for you friend. And yes, indeed.. sin sucks (Romans 7)!

  • @PrisonerxOfxLove - I have been kinda wondering the same.

  • We are all born sinners and that’s the problem. As long as we know we have a problem that’s part of the solution. Those who have problems and don’t know it haven’t begun to fix it. Hope you have a wonderful Sunday.

  • Hi Amy, I am sorry you are feeling this way. I am 79 and been a Believer since I was 30. I start each morning apologizing to God for my life yesterday. I am like you–love God, but my life and my life in this world is disappointing.

    I wish that I had a good, spiritual, Biblical answer for you, but i strongly suspect the world and us will come out they way God planned before time.

    I still think Romans 8:28 is always working. Somehow someway God will use our misery for our own good someway. Wish i could prove that, but that is how I feel.

    Sure hope you feel better.

    Blessings,

    frank

  • @Doubledb - Me too.

    I hope everything’s okay, and if it’s not okay right now, I hope it will be in the near future.

  • I too, hate living in a sinful, angry world. I’m thankful that God will come back one day and restore everything to perfection. *HUGS*. Hang in there!

  • ::hugs:: Your life is definitely not wasted. You are God’s investment in a world gone wrong. And don’t ever forget it!

  • As others have stated, I’m also curious about what happened with your boyfriend that you spoke so well of.

  • Yes, you are the problem (as are each of us). However, in spite of ourselves, God chose us in Christ and lavished His love us while we were yet sinners, and He continues to bear with us for Christ’s sake.

    Hosea 11:8  How shall I give thee up, Ephraim? how shall I deliver thee, Israel? how shall I make thee as Admah? how shall I set thee as Zeboim? mine heart is turned within me, my repentings are kindled together.

    A Debtor to Mercy Alone (Augustus Toplady)

    1 A debtor to mercy alone,
    Of covenant mercy I sing;
    Nor fear, with thy righteousness on,
    My person and off’ring to bring.
    The terrors of law and of God
    With me can have nothing to do;
    My Saviour’s obedience and blood
    Hide all my transgressions from view.

    2 The work which his goodness began,
    The arm of his strength will complete;
    His promise is Yea and Amen,
    And never was forfeited yet.
    Things future, nor things that are now,
    Nor all things below or above,
    Can make him his purpose forgo,
    Or sever my soul from his love.

    3 My name from the palms of his hands
    Eternity will not erase;
    Impressed on his heart it remains,
    In marks of indelible grace.
    Yes, I to the end shall endure,
    As sure as the earnest is giv’n;
    More happy, but not more secure,
    The glorified spirits in heav’n.

    One way we DO waste our lives is by not seeking to plumb the breadth and length and height and depth of God’s love. John 17:3, Isaiah 55.

  • I vote @ANVRSADDAY‘s answer is the best.  It’s childlike faith, cuts through all the fat, and is not excessively pious or intellectual.  (Don’t mean by inference to diss all the other excellent brothers and sisters.  My man Frank just has a way about him)

    It’s like this; there’s the temptation to try and sound like C.S. Lewis and give a really incisive profound answer.  (I should know) And when all is said and done, it isn’t the profound wisdom that touches people’s lives.  Having been on both sides of both needing and (trying to) give consolation, it seems to my gut-level sense that simple is best.
    Props to @naphtali_deer for quoting song lyrics.  Songs have a real anointing on them (if I may borrow that term from the charismatic lexicon)  Next to sacred Scripture itself,  a good holy song is the best way to convey spiritual chicken noodle soup (strictly my opinion.)
    May you be well.  May “All Hands On Deck”, in Our Lord’s gracious provision, help alleviate this funk.

  • @naphtali_deer - We used to sing that song at CrossWay.   I guess I didn’t read the credits because I thought it was a Sovereign Grace song.    Anyway I love what God does in His mercy because of His love and grace.

  • And all the people who convey their *hugs*; props to them, too.

    Something was once said to me when I was down.  I think it can safely apply to you, too.
    “There are people who work at it all their lives, who would sell their soul, for a fraction of the goodwill you seem to engender naturally.”
    (Not that I’m such an all-around guy; it’s just in that particular niche at my place of employment, it seemed that I got along with people)

  • Good thing we’re God’s problem.

    Personally speaking, I am also one of God’s sinners.Sigh. And Hooray!

  • Devote some time to helping others who are in need. Or maybe you already do… I don’t know you and so don’t know what you do with your time, but if you have so much time on your hands and you feel that your life is without purpose, and you hate sinners, well.. then it only makes sense. How does that saying go? An empty mind is the devil’s workshop? Not empty.. I don’t mean to imply your mind is empty and that’s not the right word… it’s the right phrase but I’m drawing a blank… A ______ mind is the devil’s workshop.. I could use some help here. Anyway, my point is that the best solution if you feel your life is without any meaningful purpose, you should change it. There are plenty of kids who need tutoring, elderly who need help, rain forests that need saved and a bazillion other worthwhile ways to add meaning to your life. You’re young, healthy, resourceful… put it to good use. Maybe that’s what you need. Just my thoughts. Here.. have a mini. Minis always make things better.
