  • JC Penney vs. Chick-Fil-A

I’d just like to point out: JC Penney vs. Chick-Fil-A.  JC Penney – got a gay spokesperson, starting being openly supportive of gay “rights”, underwent a HUGE transformation and started including gay people in their ads.

Chick Fil-A – didn’t change a thing.  They make good food, close on Sundays to give people time to worship if they wish, and had their founder say his personal beliefs on the subject of gay marriage.

Why roast one and not the other?  Calm down, vote with your feet, and be fair.  Thank you.

  • Summer Storms update

There is thunder crashing down on me outside, but I’m safe in my little room.

So much has gone on in the past few weeks.  I’ll give you a highlight tour and maybe expand later.
Chad, my mother, and I went on a cruise for a week and returned last Sunday.  It was pretty good overall.  My favorite was swimming with stingrays in Grand Cayman, but I loved Jamaica as well.  Cozumel was rainy, just like last time.

Since I’ve been back I’ve been blissfully employed with reading, cooking a bit, and thinking about laundry.  I say thinking about it because I’ve yet to do it.  I have to take my clothes down the path to Chad’s house and do them there, and I haven’t yet.  I tried to do some of Chad’s laundry today but it was already in the wash.  The big house has a maid that randomly comes and does things to Chad’s room, but I don’t know when or what…so it’s confusing to me.  Lots of things go on here that I don’t know about till they happen, and it throws me off.

There’s a little coffeehouse down the way called Daily Brew.  It’s got just about the best drink I’ve ever had – a blueberry white mocha.  Yum.  I take my books there and read them till I want to leave or get distracted by others being too loud.  But it’s mainly wonderful.

Since being on the cruise I’ve been eating really well, and Chad has been trying too.  We started Insanity (the workout)…just have done day one.  I almost puked on the fit test part.  I bet this is portentous of things to come.  I hate throwing up.

Something strange and disconcerting happened…I had an old message on Facebook I stumbled on from a girl I didn’t know.  She said she was my ex’s girlfriend after me, and that she found out he gave her herpes and that I should get tested.  At first I thought it was someone being cruel and messing with me, but I don’t know why any sane person would do that.  This is interesting because 1) I’m a virgin and 2) At the time he claimed to be a Christian and a virgin and 2) We never did anything sexual that could give me herpes.  I’m not sure what I make of it.  I wrote her back and thanked her for the concern but assured her I’m okay.  My ex has gone off the deep end since we broke up, had some really bad things happen to him, stopped going to church, stopped really believing in God, and thrown away his sexual purity.  My heart breaks for him, but I’m glad I’m where I am now.

Speaking of where I am now, I am really anxious to get involved in Pro-life stuff here but the organization I keep email is very spotty with responding.  I wait for weeks before getting a reply.  I might go with a different one until I hear from them for sure.  I always feel weird working with the Catholics because I know so much of their lingo and practice but I’m not Catholic…so I have to explain that I can’t when they invite me to mass.  But sometimes the Catholics are the only ones doing anything about abortion and I want to help, so I stand with them.

That’s all for now.  I will have pictures for you later…don’t you worry :)

  • Happy Diamond Jubilee, Queen Elizabeth!

Today is the Queen’s 60th anniversary of her coronation :)

    Then:

    Isn’t she beautiful!?

    Now:

60 years as queen.  Happy anniversary :)

My favorite song from her coronation – the Coronation Te Deum by William Walton.

What legacy will you leave after 60 years?  I doubt I’ll have any fanfare, but I hope to be a quieter, sometimes fiery redheaded…servant of Christ.

  • I’m in the weird span of time between my time here in Fort Worth and spending my summer in Houston.  I’ve been trying to tie up some loose ends, helping my mom get the backyard ready for the summer (we just got the pool redone).  I’m kind of sad about it…leaving a nice backyard with a pool to move to a place where I’m not sure if I’ll have access to a pool or not.  But I spent a lot of sad hours in the pool last summer, so I know a pool by itself doesn’t bring happiness.

I’ve been going to Zumba class a lot.  I just got back actually.  Zumba is fun, but the enjoyment of the class depends on the instructor.  I went to one in Houston last week…I walked in and everyone was sitting on the floor, talking quietly.  Ummmm, weird.  Zumba is a high energy class and I’ve *never* seen anyone sitting around beforehand.  So I stood, by myself in the back, and waited…5:58….6:01….6:04…6:06 is when the instructor got there for the 6 pm class.  She didn’t even apologize or anything.  She was kinda rude, too.  Needless to say I didn’t enjoy it.  I’m a stickler for starting on time because of being in the world of rehearsals – we aren’t allowed to be late.  So it was a bummer.

24 Hour Fitness here is awesome.  The ones I’ve been to in Houston…not so much.  I’m planning to start doing Insanity with Chad, right after our 7 day cruise.  Wish me luck ;)

  • Last day of recitals at my public school.  Bitter sweet.
3 more days of teaching at my private school.
Then off to Houston for about 5 days, then back here for a few more weeks of church job.
    Then cruise.
    Then all summer in Houston.
    Plus whatever else comes along.

    Life is changing.  Hold on.

  • Ave Maria – Bach/Gounod

I sang Ave Maria at church today :) This is a video taken from the 2nd mass. I hope you enjoy.

This is at an Anglican church. I’m not technically Anglican, but I’ve been singing at the church for a year and a half now. Everyone is so nice, and I love the formality of it. The organ music is great, too :)

This is the Bach/Gounod version of Ave Maria. Most people think of the Schubert version, which is also beautiful, but done so much that it can get old. I like this version. There is another version that I like but could never find the music. We did this song today in honor of Jesus’ mother for Mothers’ Day.

  • Obama’s daughters punished with a baby

    He said, it not me!

“I have two precious daughters – they are miracles… Look, I got two daughters – 9 years old and 6 years old. I am going to teach them first about values and morals, but if they make a mistake, I don’t want them punished with a baby. I don’t want them punished with an STD at age 16, so it doesn’t make sense to not give them information.”  -Obama, 2008

  • In the beginning, man created God in his own image

In the beginning, man created God in his own image…

    Wait, what?
Yes, that’s right.  Or so many “Christians” would have you believe.
After thousands of years of Christian history, and thousands of years of Jewish history before that, modern man has decided, in his infinite wisdom, that the Bible is archaic and we need to remake God in our own image.

We can take out the parts that might offend someone…such as that sex outside of marriage is wrong.  Or that God is just and righteous and does not permit sin to enter Heaven.  That isn’t palatable to us, so let’s just scrap it.  God is only loving and kind and sweet.  He’s good, but not so good that He’s holy.  Sin is okay by him.  I mean…after all, what is sin but a mistake?  And he’d never punish anyone for making a mistake.  Except Hitler, of course.

In fact, God is so sweet and kind that he might even be a woman.  And Jesus never said anything offensive to anyone…He (or is it She) taught a message of love and tolerance for all. He/She just walked around giving hugs and kindness and telling everyone good messages on how to be kind and bring social justice.  He/She was so good and kind and never offended anyone so much that people were offended enough to kill Him/Her.  It must have been the evil Hitler type people back then, because people are basically good (except Hitler, of course).  People are so good that everyone will go to heaven.  Except Hitler.

In fact, Jesus died a needless death because there are all kinds of ways to heaven.  You can be a Jew, Muslim, or Hindu because we all pretty much worship the same God.  Jesus dying for “sin” must have been a mistake.  Everyone can just get along, right?

Until someone rapes your daughter or kills your son.  Then what?  Who pays for that?
Who fixes that problem?  What becomes of the soul that sins?  Are they basically good?  Are people in categories depending on what they’ve done?  What about the people who have wronged you?  What about…

    you?

God gave us the Bible.  The further we stray from it, the more ridiculous things become.  Please do not claim to follow Christ if you don’t believe the record we have about Him and His life and death.
